Our Story

ZiaFly is a guide service that focuses on a personalized fishing experience that comes with access to some of the best trout fisheries in the Rockies.

Zia Fly was founded by Spencer Seim, who lives a life devoted to fishing and has been guiding northern New Mexico and southern Colorado for the last 19 years. Ever since he was 8 years old, Spencer has been obsessed with fly fishing and fly tying.

Spencer’s flies have been featured in The Drake magazine, New York Times, Kirk W Johnson’s book “The Feather Thief” and America’s Favorite Flies. Spencer has been mentioned in This American Life, Smithsonian Magazine, and Outside Magazine.

ZiaFly guide service is fully licensed, bonded, and insured to operate in New Mexico and Colorado (outfitter license number 3027)
ZiaFly is an equal-opportunity employer.

The guides at ZiaFly truly care about your fly fishing experience. They understand the importance of the teamwork needed to produce a memorable day on the water.

Upon booking your trip, your guide will have your contact information and will contact you directly to work out the details for your day of fishing (meeting place/time, dietary restrictions, preferences, etc.)

Every guide is certified in first aid and CPR.

We at Zia Fly share the love of our sport as well as the love for the rivers, mountains, and all the creatures that populate this beautiful area. We firmly stand against killing fish and disrespecting our natural environment.

We catch and release

Our guides will instruct you on how to safely release the fish.

We don't use plastic

We work hard to eliminate single-use plastic on our guided trips. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle and/or other beverages if you’d like. But not to worry, if you forget or don’t have a bottle, we are happy to supply you with a ZiaFly water bottle that can be added to your bill for a small cost.

We pick up trash

Wherever we go fishing, we believe in leaving the environment better than we found it and always strive to leave no trace.

Our guided trips are primarily focused on the Rio Grande watershed and its tributaries. We guide in both northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.
